Wittenberg Falls In Home Opener To Greensboro
On a cold, wet afternoon at home in Edwards-Maurer Field for the first time in the 2005 season, the Wittenberg Tigers were buried by a poor start in a 16-8 loss to Greensboro College. The loss dropped Wittenberg to 0-4 on the season, while Greensboro improved to 5-1 by beating Wittenberg for the second straight year.

The loss dropped Wittenberg to 0-4 on the season, while Greensboro improved to 5-1 by beating Wittenberg for the second straight year.
Greensboro jumped out to a 7-1 lead before the Tigers finally showed some signs of life. Still, Greensboro held a commanding 11-3 halftime advantage and then just kind of held on through the final 30 minutes to register the win.
For Wittenberg, junior Cory Windle was the top player at the offensive end of the field as he contributed three goals and one assist. Sophomore Sammy Hong added a goal and an assist, and freshmen James Mather and Mike Provost and sophomores Brandon Schwind and Travis chipped in with one goal apiece. Matt Delestienne, Mike Coursault and Adam Morrison also finished with assists.
Greensboro outshot Wittenberg 33-20 for the game, a figure inflated during that lopsided first half. The two teams were even in most statistics in the final 30 minutes, but by then the damage had been done. Sophomore Pat Garlock started in goal for the Tigers, and he finished with seven saves. Junior Kevin Adams entered after halftime and played well, allowing four goals and making four saves.
