Men's Golf Opens the Season with a Second Place Finish
Granville, OH - The Wittenberg men's golf team opened their 2025 fall season in Granville to compete in the Ted Barclay Invitational, hosted by Denison, and came away with a second-place finish. The Tigers finished 11-over-par with 579 total strokes, which was only five strokes back of five-under-par John Carroll, which took first overall.
The top individual finisher for the Tigers was Alex Rath (Dublin, OH / Scioto), who shot a 73 (+2) in the first round and a 70 (-1) in the second for a total of 143 (+1) to finish tied for second overall. Mikey Schutte (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) finished tied for fourth overall as the next finisher for the Tigers with a first round 71 (E) and a second round 73 (+2) to finish with 144 (+2) on the weekend. The next finisher for Wittenberg was Mitch Bolte (Newark, OH / Newark) tied for 14th by carding a 77 (+6) first round and 70 (-1) second for a total of 147 (+5). Griffin Turner (Enon, OH / Greenon) also finished tied for 14th by shooting a first round 74 (+3) and a seond round 73 (+2) for a 147 overall. The fifth finisher for the Tigers was Mark Sulek (Delaware, OH / Hayes), who finsihed tied for 20th with a first round 76 (+5) and a 72 (+1) in the second round for a total of 148.
The Tigers will be back in action on September 21 and 22, where they will travel to Meadville, PA to participate in the Kuhn Invitational, hosted by Allegheny College.
