Tigers Hang Tough on Day 3 of NCAA Men's Golf Championships
PENFIELD, NY - Wittenberg Men's Golf stayed the course on Day 3 of the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships, carding a tremendous round of 9-over-par 297 despite more rain and cold temperatures. Through three rounds, Wittenberg had 905 strokes to stand in a 12th-place tie among the 18 teams that made the cut.
Illinois Wesleyan led the way at the conclusion of each of the first three rounds, and the Titans had 885 strokes heading into the fourth and final round. The start of the fourth round, originally scheduled for Friday, was pushed up to Thursday afternoon due to ongoing weather concerns, and top-ranked Methodist got hot, shooting 9-under-par through the first 13 holes of the fourth round to take the lead by two strokes when play was stopped due to darkness.
Through 11 holes of the fourth round, Wittenberg was at 5-over-par and in 13th place overall. After a grueling day that included golf from sun up to sun down, the teams are scheduled to be back on the course early on Friday in hopes of completing the tournament before the worst of the weather arrives.
Freshman Mitch Bolte (Newark, OH / Newark) has led the way for the Tigers through the first three rounds. On the heels of rounds of 73 and 74 to help Wittenberg make the cut, Bolte continued his stellar play with another two-over-par round of 74. He headed into the fourth round at 221 strokes to stand 14th place individually, and after going 1-under-par through his first nine holes of the final round Bolte moved into a tie for 10th place.
Senior Jake Yarbrough (Dublin, OH / Jerome) isn't far behind after posting a 3-over-par third round of 75. He entered the final loop around the par-72 Midvale Country Club course in 35th place with 224 strokes.
Freshman Mikey Schutte (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) is next for the Tigers. He shot 75 on Thursday and has a total of 228 strokes. The low round on Thursday was delivered by senior Joshua Wright (Wadsworth, OH / Archbishop Hoban) as he carded a 73, and junior Mark Sulek (Delaware, OH / Hayes) rounded things out with an 81 on Thursday.
