Springfield, Ohio — After leading the Wittenberg Tigers to their first North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championship since 1992 and their first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance since 1993, three student-athletes have earned PING All-Great Lakes Region honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Ricky Boerner, class of 2012 from Hilliard, Ohio, was selected to the all-region squad for a second straight year. He was joined in 2010 by Bleu George, class of 2011 from Lancaster, Ohio, and Craig Osterbrock, class of 2013 from Wilmington, Ohio.
Boerner followed up his breakout 2008-09 season, in which he finished third in the NCAC while leading the Tigers to a second-place finish, with a stroke average of 75.5 in 2009-10 (prior to this week's NCAA Division III Tournament). That represents a nearly one stroke per round improvement and ranked second-best on the team.
After starting his Wittenberg career with a school-record round of 66 at Denison's Fall Invitational on Sept. 5, 2009, George has maintained his torrid pace, equaling Boerner's 75.5 stroke average. Osterbrock also was new to the team in 2009-10, and he made the greatest impression of all, leading the Tigers with a 74.9 stroke average.
All three student-athletes earned All-NCAC honors after the Tigers easily topped defending champion Ohio Wesleyan with a four-tournament score of 2705, compared to the Bishops' 2740.
