SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — When sixth-ranked Wittenberg University hosts No. 1 ranked College of Wooster on Saturday, Dec. 9, a sellout crowd - or something very close - is expected in the HPER Center Arena.
To accommodate the expected overflow crowd - and interested parties throughout the world - Wittenberg will offer a live video broadcast on the World Wide Web. Wittenberg is working with Stretch Internet, the same service provider that streams audio broadcasts of Tiger varsity athletic events, to provide the Internet video feed. The video broadcast can be accessed at www.wittenberg.edu/athletics.
As always, the game can be heard on the radio in the Springfield area on WUSO, 89.1-FM. The pre-game show is scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m. with WUSO Adviser Scott Leo doing play-by-play and Rob Lehner, class of 2010 from Gahanna, Ohio, providing color commentary.
Wittenberg is off to a 6-0 start to the 2006 season after a 66-61 win over NAIA scholarship program Cedarville University on Tuesday, also in the HPER Center Arena. The Tigers, coming off a trip to the national championship game and a school-record-tying 30 wins a year ago, started the year ranked 10th in the d3hoops.com preseason poll but moved up to sixth in the most recent poll released on Monday, Dec. 4.
Wooster is 5-0 heading into tonight's game against Oberlin College. The Scots ascended to the No. 1 ranking after defending national champion Virginia Wesleyan lost a game last week.
In addition to the much-anticipated men's basketball showdown Saturday evening, the Wittenberg women's basketball team is also hosting Wooster in an important early-season NCAC game. Tip-off for that game between the Tigers, who are 2-2 overall on the young season, and the Lady Scots, who have a 3-2 record, is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Internet audio broadcast - which can be heard locally on WUSO, 89.1-FM - will start at 1:45 p.m. with the pre-game show. Josh Cohick, class of 2007 from Erie, Pa., and John Strawn, class of 2007 from Solon, Ohio, are the play-by-play and color commentators respectively.
