SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — When two of the top six teams in all of NCAA Division III meet on the basketball court, the old cliche says to "throw the records out the window." In the case of the Wittenberg vs. Wooster men's basketball game on Dec. 9, old ticket policies are going the same direction.
All seats will be reserved when the sixth-ranked Tigers host second-ranked Wooster in a key early-season North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) game at 7:30 p.m. that day. Ticket pre-sales will take place from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, through Thursday, Dec. 7, in Wittenberg's HPER Center Legends Lobby. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for students under the age of 18.
Wittenberg faculty, staff and students can still use their identification cards to get tickets free of charge, but they will have to attend the pre-sale sessions to secure their reserved seats. No passes will be honored for the game, and there will be no general admission seating. Wooster also has an allotment of tickets that will also be sold prior to the game.
For more information about Wittenberg's pre-sale sessions or ticket policies, call the Department of Athletics and Recreation at (937) 327-6489.
The Tigers are off to a 4-0 start to the 2006-07 season, just eight months after reaching the NCAA Division III Tournament championship game and finishing the 2005-06 season with a 30-4 overall record. Wittenberg opens NCAC action at Denison at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, and then takes on neighboring NAIA scholarship program Cedarville back home in the HPER Center Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 5, before the Tigers can turn their attention to Wooster.
The Scots, who have won the last two NCAC regular season titles, are 3-0 so far in 2006-07. The Scots are outscoring opponents by a whopping 36 points per game in the early going, while the Tigers, the top defensive team in all of NCAA Division III each of the last two years and winner of the last two NCAC Tournament championships, are holding foes to an NCAC-low 56.5 points per game.
These two teams have won or shared every NCAC regular season title since 1989, the year Wittenberg joined the conference. In 2004-05, Wittenberg won two of the three meetings. In 2005-06, Wooster won two of three, including a Feb. 4, 2006, match-up in Springfield that was the first game between the top two ranked NCAA Division III teams in the nation in more than a decade.
