Paige Vanerstrom Selected To Participate In Annual Division III Senior Game
Capping tremendous career in the Red & White, senior midfielder becomes 10th Wittenberg field hockey student-athlete selected to participate in NFHCA Senior Game.
Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University field hockey standout Paige Vanerstrom (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) has been selected to participate in the prestigious National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Senior Game scheduled for 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, on the campus of Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va.
Vanerstrom is one of 60 players chosen to participate in the 2015 game, including just three student-athletes representing North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) schools. She becomes the 10th Tiger student-athlete selected to play in the annual competition since 1990, starting with Jeanette Baier that year and continuing through Kellen Morrissey in 2012.
“Paige has worked very hard as both a student and an athlete during her four years at Wittenberg, and this selection is a fitting tribute to her achievements,” said Wittenberg Head Coach Kelley Hubbell. “I know that Paige and the other seniors from North Coast Athletic Conference programs will represent themselves and the league very well in the game.”
A four-year starter in the midfield for the Tigers, Vanerstrom led Wittenberg offensively in 2015 with 11 goals and six assists for 28 total points. Three of her goals were credited as game-winners. For her career, Vanerstrom finished with 26 goals and 14 assists for 66 total points.
Vanerstrom earned second-team All-NCAC honors in 2013 and first-team All-NCAC in 2014 (the 2015 team has not yet been announced). She also claimed second-team All-Great Lakes Region honors in 2013 and first-team all-region in 2014 (the 2015 team has not yet been announced).
Vanerstom was among three seniors playing for Wittenberg in 2015 as the Tigers posted records of 8-11 overall and 8-6 in the NCAC, good for fourth place in the final league standings. After rallying from an 0-7 start to the season with eight wins in 11 games, Wittenberg saw its season end with a 1-0 NCAC Tournament semifinal loss to top-seeded Kenyon.
