GREENCASTLE, Ind. – In a game played at DePauw, the Wittenberg field hockey team fell to fourth-ranked Christopher Newport by a score of 5-0 on Sunday, falling to 1-3 overall.
The Tigers, playing their second game in as many days and facing one of the nation's top squads, trailed 2-0 at halftime. Wittenberg increased its intensity in the second half, shooting 12 times compared to two shots in the first half.
Junior Megan Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) led the offense with four shots, followed by sister Megan Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) and junior Paige Vanerstrom (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) with three each.
Vanerstrom also stepped in to help on defense, stopping a CNU shot to pick up a defensive save. Senior Alena Mohler (Powell, Ohio/Pfafftown Reagan (NC)) also collected a defensive save.
In goal, sophomore Sarah Brownell (Oconomowoc, Wis./University Lake School) and sophomore Laura Jansing (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) split time and each made four saves.
The Tigers begin the North Coast Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Wooster. The match begins at 1 p.m. and will feature live statistics and live video courtesy the College of Wooster.
