SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers won their second game in a row, parlaying a 31-shot advantage into a 3-0 victory over visiting Transylvania.
The win moved the Tigers to 5-6 overall on the 2013 season. Wittenberg will close the season with eight straight North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) games in hopes of improving upon its current record of 3-3.
Wittenberg enjoyed a tremendous advantage in shots in the game, piling up 19 attempts on Transylvania's goal in the first half and another 25 in the second half. The Tigers also held a 13-6 edge in penalty corner opportunities.
Even after dominating action in the first half, the Tigers didn't break through until no time remained on the clock. Sophomore Andrea Mattingly (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) tallied just before the halftime intermission to give Wittenberg its first lead of the game.
The Tigers put the game out of reach with two goals in a six-minute span of the second half. Sophomore Paige Vanerstrom (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) scored in the 42nd minute and junior Beth Warning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) scored in the 48th minute. Freshman Michelle Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) picked up the assist on Warning's goal.
At the other end of the field, freshman goalkeeper Laura Jansing (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) was credited with eight saves.
