SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Wittenberg Tigers rounded out a weekend of excellent competition on the short end of a 3-0 score against nationally ranked Lynchburg.
The loss came less than 24 hours after Wittenberg opened the 2013 season with a 4-0 loss to Centre. Lynchburg suffered an overtime loss to nationally ranked DePauw on Friday but bounced back against the Tigers with a solid all-around performance.
The Tigers were outshot in the game by a 29-4 margin, but freshman goalkeeper Sarah Brownell (Ocnomowoc, Wis./University Lake School) was outstanding between the pipes with 17 saves.
Offensively, Wittenberg was paced by sophomore Paige Vanerstrom (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), who recorded two shots. Freshman Michelle Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and junior Megan Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) each added one shot.
The first road trip of the 2013 season is next up for the Tigers as they head to Bethany on Saturday, Sept. 7, and Washington & Jefferson on Sunday, Sept. 8.
