Tigers Force Overtime But Fall To Oberlin
The Wittenberg field hockey team visited Northeastern Ohio on Sunday to make up a game postponed from Sept. 10 at Oberlin but fell in overtime by a score of 4-3 to move to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

OBERLIN, Ohio — The Wittenberg field hockey team visited Northeastern Ohio on Sunday to make up a game postponed from Sept. 10 at Oberlin but fell in overtime by a score of 4-3 to move to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
With the Tigers trailing 3-2 late in the second period, junior Elizabeth Dwyer (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue) struck for her second goal of the day to even the score at 3-3 and send the contest to overtime.
It took almost the entire 15-minute overtime, but 14:43 into the extra period the Yeowomen's Karin Yoshida pocketed the winning goal, giving Oberlin it's first win over Wittenberg since 2007 and just the second since 2003. The Tigers lead the all-time series 44-11-1.
Dwyer scored her two goals on six shots, while freshman Beth Warning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) scored the team's other goal and shot nine times. Junior Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) provided an assist to Warning.
Wittenberg outshot the Yeowomen 23-18 and senior goalkeeper Jenny Schaafsma (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) put up 10 saves in front of the net.
The Tigers return to Edwards-Maurer Field for a non-conference matchup with Trine at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21. The game will be covered by the Tiger Sports Network with live statistics, audio and video, and check back after the game for a photo gallery and video recap.
