Bio

Pat Welsh joined the Tiger coaching staff in 2011 after a tremendous three-year run as a graduate assistant coach at Grand Valley State University.

Welsh made contributions to Grand Valley State's program by assisting with the quarterbacks, defensive backs and wide receivers at different points during the last three years. In addition, he was in charge of scouting reports and scout teams for special teams, and he was the video coordinator. While he was helping the nationally ranked squad reach the NCAA Division II Tournament three straight years, including one national championship game, Welsh was earning his bachelor's degree in physical education with an emphasis in sports leadership and a concentration in coaching.

Before working and studying at Grand Valley State, Welsh was an assistant coach at Whitehall High School in Whitehall, Mich., between 2005 and 2008. He served as the quarterbacks coach for the varsity team and the offensive coordinator for the junior varsity team, in addition to coaching duties with the boys basketball and baseball programs during that same time span.
