Four Tiger Football Players Earn Academic All-District Awards

SPRINGFIELD, OH — Four Wittenberg student-athletes, Dalton Allen (Delaware, OH/Hayes), Luke Jackson (DeGraff, OH/Indian Lake), Hayden Olcott (Delaware, OH/Olentangy), and Cameron Snurr (Springboro, OH/Springboro), were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA Division III Football Academic All-District Team for the 2024 season, the organization announced on Tuesday.
The CSC Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To earn CSC Academic All-District distinction, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above in class standing with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.50 while meeting athletic participation requirements.
In football, student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's matches. Selected Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot (noted by asterisk on release from CSC). First-, Second-, and Third-Team Academic All-America honorees will be announced later this month.
Allen, Jackson, and Snurr were among the players who spearheaded a defensive unit that ranked second in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) with 282.8 yards allowed per game in 2024. In addition to leading the Tigers in sacks, Allen was tops with 17.5 tackles for a total of 83 yards lost on the season. He ranked fifth on the team with 46 total tackles, and he was also credited with one forced fumble and one pass break-up.
Allen is a physics and math double major on the pre-engineering pathway who has a 3.77 cumulative GPA. The sophomore defensive end capped his breakout 2024 season with first-team All-NCAC and third-team D3football.com All-Region honors after he led Wittenberg and the NCAC in solo sacks (8) and total sacks (9.5).
Snurr is an exercise science major with a 3.70 GPA. A senior linebacker and team captain in 2024, Snurr was the team's second-leading tackler with 78 stops on the season (45 solo). Jackson is a math and education major with a 3.93 GPA. A junior defensive back, Jackson ranked among the team leaders in tackles (71), interceptions (2), and pass break-ups (4). Both Snurr and Jackson earned second-team All-NCAC honors after the season.
Olcott is a junior sport management major with a 3.87 GPA. He recorded 35 punts for an average of 40.3 yards per punt in 2024, which ranked third in the NCAC. Olcott, who had a 68-yard punt, the second-longest in the NCAC in 2024, was also an Academic All-District selection in 2023.
The Tiger football team finished 6-4 overall in 2024 and 5-3 in the NCAC, good for fourth place in the league standings.
Wittenberg football has had 11 individuals earn a total of 15 Academic All-America awards: Gene Miller (First Team - 1963); Robert Baum (Second Team - 1971); Dean Caven (Second Team - 1976); Jim Donellon (Second Team - 1978); Joe Govern (Second Team - 1979); John Lutz (Second Team - 1980); Bill Beach (First Team - 1980, 1981); Tom Jones (First Team - 1981); Victor Terebuh (Second Team - 1988, Second Team - 1989, First Team - 1990); Dan Corfman (Second Team - 1995); Corey Stump (Second Team - 2015); and Donald Hefelfinger (Second Team - 2018).
