Tiger Football Partner's with The Fuller House in Efforts to Give Back
Tiger Football will be replacing the siding on a house this Saturday in an effort to focus on serving the community
Community service is a big part of Wittenberg University, espeically in athletics. Within its mission includes service which "provides an intentional opportunity to give back to the world and to promote social justice. Service requires us to learn about community needs, about who we are, and about what we can contribute. We are dedicated as faculty, staff, and students to advancing the common good as local citizens and as members of the global community."
The Wittenberg Athletic Department has tried to incorporate the value of service within its teams by partnering with a number of non-profits in the Springfield area to reinforce this vital part of our mission. The most recent team to incorporate service in their athletic endeavors is the football team. They will be working with the Fuller Center for Housing to replace siding on a local house in Springfield this Saturday, April 16.
"Other teams within the department have had some pretty powerful and motivating experiences with their community service efforts. Volunteering with the Fuller Center seemed like a no brainer for our team," said Coach Fincham.
According to the Fuller Center for Housing Organization's website, they are described as "an international, Christian nonprofit that builds and renovates houses in partnership with families in need. Homeowners work hard-in-hand with volunteers to build or renovate their homes, which they then pay for on terms they can afford, with no interest charged or profit made. This is charity with dignity and a program that creates decent homes, restores neighborhoods and revitalizes communities."
Football is in the air at Wittenberg, as spring ball has begun with the program gearing up for their season-opener on September 3, against OAC opponent Capital at Edwards-Maurer field. The home opener is set to kick-off at 7:30PM.
