Corey Stump Earns First-Team Academic All-District Honors
Excellence in the classroom and on the field propel senior wide receiver to district award; now to be considered for Academic All-America recognition.
Springfield, Ohio — Senior wide receiver Corey Stump (Lima, Ohio/Central Catholic) of the Wittenberg football team has been recognized for the combination of his athletic and academic accomplishments with first-team Capital One Academic All-America Division III All-District 7 honors.
The district awards of the Academic All-America program are awarded following nominations and online voting by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Only student-athletes who make the first team in district voting, as Stump did, can be considered for Academic All-America awards, which will be announced later this month.
Stump is in his second year as a starter for the Tigers, who head into a game at Kenyon on Saturday, Nov. 7, with records of 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). He leads the Tigers and the NCAC with 64 receptions for 853 yards and nine touchdowns, which have run his career totals to 117 receptions for 1,600 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Stump, who started his collegiate career as the Tigers’ Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year in 2012, ranks 10th in program history for career receptions and 12th for career receiving yards. His reception, yardage and touchdown totals for the 2015 season all rank in the top five in program history with two games remaining on the schedule.
As a team, Wittenberg leads the NCAC and ranks among the best in the nation with 287.6 yards passing per game in 2015.
Off the field, Stump has performed volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity and is active in several organizations around campus. In the classroom, Stump carries a 3.88 grade point average, and he earned the Biology Excellence Honors Award in 2014.
