After a tremendous performance in a 49-9 victory over Hiram, the freshman defensive tackle is recognized by D3football.com.
Springfield, Ohio – After the finest game of his young collegiate career, Wittenberg University football freshman defensive tackle Brady Vanover (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) has been honored by D3football.com with a spot on its Team of the Week.
Vanover was a force in the middle of the defense as the Tigers won their third consecutive lopsided North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) game 49-9 over Hiram on Saturday, Oct. 5. His two sacks and four and a half tackles for loss were both season-highs for a Wittenberg player, and he also forced and recovered a fumble to set up a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
For the season, Vanover has 16 tackles, including a team-leading seven tackles for loss. Among those stops behind the line of scrimmage, which total a whopping 35 yards lost, are a team-high three sacks.
Ranked 18th nationally by D3football.com and 19th by the American Football Coaches Association, Wittenberg stands 3-1 on the 2013 season. Following a 49-24 loss to Football Championship Subdivision powerhouse Butler, the Tigers have outscored NCAC rivals DePauw, Oberlin and Hiram 153-9.
Next up for Wittenberg is the annual Homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 12. The Tigers will host NCAC rival Denison, which is off to its best start since 1986 at 4-1, in a game that kicks off at 1 p.m. at historic Edwards-Maurer Field.
