Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University football fans throughout the Miami Valley will have the opportunity to watch the last two home games of the 2011 season on tape delay on WWRD-TV 32, starting with a re-broadcast of Saturday's Homecoming showdown against Carnegie Mellon at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 23.
WWRD is a locally owned and operated commercial television station and Retro Television Network affiliate featuring such classic programming as Starsky & Hutch, Highway to Heaven and The Bill Cosby Show. It broadcasts over the air at Channel 32 and can be seen locally on Time Warner Cable on either Channel 22 or Channel 997.
The partnership between Wittenberg and WWRD will continue next month with a taping of the Tigers' final 2011 regular season football game against Wooster at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. UPDATE: Due to technical difficulties, the season finale against Wooster will not be aired on WWRD.
The broadcasts are produced by the Tiger Sports Network, with Scott Leo providing play-by-play alongside Jim Scoby. The production crew, including camera operators and directors, is entirely comprised of Wittenberg students studying in the innovative Integrated Media Corps, a year-long internship program designed to provide students hands-on learning opportunities in a variety of communications fields.
Wittenberg heads into the game against Carnegie Mellon ranked 23rd in the nation by the American Football Coaches Association with a 6-1 overall record. The Tigers are atop the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) standings with a 4-0 record after capturing the 2009 and 2010 titles with undefeated records. Wittenberg is currently riding win streaks of 17 straight NCAC games and 17 straight home games.
Carnegie Mellon is on a three-game win streak and now sports a 4-2 record. The Tartans have lost close games to Wittenberg each of the last three years.
