SPRINGFIELD, OH — Four Wittenberg Baseball standouts were rewarded for their tremendous performance in the 2025 season with all-region awards from two different organizations. From d3baseball.com, senior pitcher Charlie Schafer (Beavercreek, OH / Beavercreek) and graduate student catcher Parker Gryskevich (Brownsburg, IN / Brownsburg) earned first-team honors and senior outfielder Rocco Royer (Lake Bluff, IL / Lake Forest) was selected to the third team. The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) had Royer and Schafer on the second team and Gryskevich and graduate student second baseman Luke Thomas (Tallmadge, OH / Tallmadge) on the third team.
The regional awards were the first in the intercollegiate careers of all four student-athletes.
Schafer put the finishing touches on an outstanding collegiate career with his best season in the Red & White. He earned first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) honors after leading the Tigers and the league with 24 appearances in the 2025 season. He ranked among the league leaders in most pitching categories as he compiled a 6-1 record and six saves in 41.1 innings.
Gryskevich appeared in 38 games for the Tigers. At the plate, he ranked among the team leaders with a .365 battling average and .494 on-base percentage to go along with 10 doubles, nine home runs, 35 runs scored, and 36 RBIs. His work defensively was stellar as well, as Gryskevich committed just three errors against 258 putouts and 13 assists for a .989 fielding percentage.
Royer appeared in 39 games in 2025, and he contributed team-highs of 13 home runs and 49 RBIs to the offense, helping the Tigers to a program-record 51 home runs on the season. Royer also ranked among the team and league leaders with 45 runs scored, and he played errorless defense in the outfield with 47 putouts in 47 total chances.
Thomas battled through injuries in his final collegiate season to post a .329 batting average. Splitting his time between designated hitter and second base, Thomas scored 33 runs and drove in 35 more while contributing six doubles and five home runs to the offense.
The Tigers finished the season with records of 29-12 overall and 11-4 in the NCAC, good for a third-place tie with Wooster in the regular season league standings. By virtue of tiebreaker criteria, Wittenberg was awarded the No. 3 seed in NCAC Tournament. The Tigers defeated Wabash, 14-2, to open the tournament, before losing to Denison, which has advanced to the NCAA Division III College World Series, and Wooster to finish the season.
