Four Tigers Earn 2025 Baseball Academic All-District Awards

SPRINGFIELD, OH — Four Wittenberg student-athletes including Tommy Chilicki (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy), Thatcher Dietz (Westerville, OH / Westerville South), Alex Nemunaitis (Perrysburg, OH / Ottawa Hills), and Andrew Rust (Dublin, OH / Dublin Coffman) were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA Division III Academic All-District Baseball Team for the 2025 season.
The CSC Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To earn CSC Academic All-District distinction, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above in class standing with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.50 while meeting athletic participation requirements.
In baseball, pitchers must have pitched at least 25 innings or appear in at least 17 games, and non-pitchers must have competed in 90 percent or started at least 66 percent of the team's total games. Selected Academic All-District honorees, including Nemunaitis, advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, Second-, and Third-Team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in June.
Chilicki, a junior second baseman and right-handed relief pitcher, is a nursing major with a 3.74 GPA. He played in and started all the Tigers' 34 games this season. On the mound, he made six appearances, including two starting assignments, and compiled a 1-0 record with a 5.93 ERA in 13.2 innings. Chilicki has a breakout season at the plate for the Tigers with a .395 batting average, good for second on the team. He led the team in hits with 58, tallied 12 doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 33 RBIs. He also scored 32 runs, had a slugging percentage of .571, and an on-base percentage of .451. In the NCAC, he ranked fourth in batting average, 11th in on-base plus slugging (OPS) percentage at 1.010, tied for fifth in hits, tied for fourth in doubles, 11th in RBIs, and ninth in total bases with 83. He earned NCAC Baseball Player of the Week honors on Feb. 25. Last year, Chilicki was a member of the NCAC Academic Honor Roll.
Dietz is a sophomore outfielder majoring in biology and carrying a 3.55 GPA. He played and started in 32 games this season, compiling a batting average of .333 with 44 hits, nine doubles, eight home runs, 31 RBIs, 27 runs scored, a slugging percentage of .583, an on base percentage of .396. In the NCAC, he ranked seventh in homers and ninth in slugging percentage.
Nemunaitis is a junior third baseman and biochemistry and molecular biology major with a 3.97 GPA. He played in 37 games and started in 36. He compiled a .365 average, had 50 hits, nine doubles, three home runs, 33 RBIs, and was third on the team in runs with 41. He also posted a slugging percentage of .511, led the team in hit by pitches with 15, had an on-base percentage of .455, stole 11 bases in 12 attempts. In the NCAC, he was 14th in batting average, sixth in runs, 12th in hits and in doubles, tied for 11th in RBIs, tied for second in hit by pitches, 11th in on-base percentage, and tied for ninth in stolen bases. Last year, Nemunaitis was named second-team All-NCAC, and he earned All-America status from 64 Analytics. He also earned all-region honors from D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association, was CSC Academic All-District, and was named to the NCAC Honor Roll. This year, he was Wittenberg's male recipient of the NCAC Scholar Athlete Award.
Rust is a junior right-handed starting pitcher and business finance major with a 3.98 GPA. He started 11 games, appeared in 13, and compiled a 4-2 record on the season. He threw 31.6 innings and tallied a 6.69 ERA. Rust was NCAC Baseball Athlete of the week for the week of March 11.
The Tigers finished the season with records of 29-12 overall and 11-4 in the NCAC, good for a third-place tie with Wooster in the regular season league standings. By virtue of tiebreaker criteria, Wittenberg was awarded the No. 3 seed in NCAC Tournament. The Tigers defeated Wabash, 14-2, to open the tournament, before losing to Denison, which has advanced to the NCAA Division III College World Series, and Wooster to finish the season.
