Springfield, Ohio — The Springfield/Clark County Baseball Hall of Fame will be decked out in Red & White in 2012 as the latest class of inductees includes four former Tiger standouts.
Jeff Brown, class of 1992, Dick Pence, class of 1952, Phil Scott, class of 1991, and Dustin Wade, class of 1998, will all be inducted during a banquet on Saturday, Jan. 7, at the UAW Local 402 Hall in Springfield. They will be joined in the Springfield/Clark County Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2012 by the 1969 Southeastern High School team and the 2007 Kenton Ridge High School team.
Brown earned four varsity letters for the Tigers between 1989 and 1992, culminating with first-team All-America honors following a record-breaking 1992 season. A first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and first-team All-Mideast Region honoree following his junior and senior seasons, Brown was the 1992 NCAA Division III batting champion when he set a then-Wittenberg school record with a .500 batting average. He continues to rank among the best in school history in numerous career and season offensive categories, with his .426 career batting average ranking No. 1 among Tiger players with at least 200 at-bats.
Pence was a pitcher, first baseman and outfielder for the Wittenberg Tigers in the 1940s before taking his game to the professional ranks with the Detroit Tigers for several years.
Scott was a standout middle infielder who set school records for assists, doubles and hits in a season while playing at Wittenberg from 1986-1990, and his name continues to appear in numerous locations in the program record book. He earned Team Most Valuable Player honors in 1989 and 1990 and served as a team captain in 1990 before playing minor league baseball for teams in the New York Mets and New York Yankee organizations for two years. Scott earned first-team All-NCAC and first-team All-Mideast Region honors in 1990 as well.
Wade started at first base for two seasons for the Tigers, contributing robust batting averages of .385 in 1997 and .393 in 1998 while ranking among the team leaders in multiple offensive categories. He served as a team captain and claimed first-team All-NCAC honors as a senior after earning NCAC Newcomer of the Year honors in 1997 after transferring to Wittenberg from Urbana.
