Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University recently welcomed Leah Poiner to the position of Special Assistant to Director of Athletics and Recreation Gary Williams.
Poiner comes to Wittenberg after a stint as athletics operations and game management coordinator and residence director at Juniata College. In those roles at Juniata, Poiner was involved in many aspects of Juniata’s Department of Athletics, and she also managed a residential area of more than 100 students.
At Wittenberg, Poiner will be a part of Williams’ leadership team. Her primary duties are assisting the Department of Athletics leadership team with all internal operations, including game and event management, budget oversight, assessment, program evaluation, and student employment.
“We are thrilled to have Leah join the staff in Wittenberg’s Department of Athletics,” Williams said. “Leah brings a tremendous passion for intercollegiate athletics and keen attention to detail that is a perfect complement to our administrative team. We could not be more pleased to have her join us and look forward to the contributions she will make in the coming weeks and months as we continue to make still greater progress as a department for the university."
Poiner is a 2013 graduate of Baldwin Wallace University, where she earned a bachelor of arts in sport management. A student-athlete on the Yellow Jacket women’s soccer team, Poiner also completed minors in business management and recreation. During her collegiate career, she volunteered or worked as an intern for the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland State University and at Super Bowl XLVIII.
“I am very excited to step into this role with Wittenberg’s Department of Athletics,” Poiner said. “To be a part of this department is a great honor and an opportunity I look forward to embracing fully. The staff is exceptional, and I feel blessed to be a part of it.”
