Bio
Jay Owen was named the sixth head coach in Wittenberg Men's Lacrosse program history in August 2013. In 2023, Owen took on additional responsibilities as an assistant director of athletics.
Owen's Wittenberg coaching career is highlighted by North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Coach of the Year honors in 2017. That same year, two of Owen's players earned first-team all-region honors.
Before taking the position at Wittenberg, Owen spent 15 seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Salisbury University. During his time on the coaching staff, Salisbury won five NCAA Division III National Championships, and Owen contributed to the achievements of 25 players who earned All-America awards. Salisbury had an NCAA-record 69-game winning streak during that time as well.
As a student-athlete at Salisbury, Owen played on two teams that won NCAA Division III National Championships. He earned two all-conference designations, and he earned a conference academic award all four years. During his career, Salisbury put together a 47-game winning streak.
Owen earned his bachelor's degrees in communications and history from Salisbury. His wife, Gwen, is Wittenberg's vice president and dean of student life. They have three children.
