Bio

Bill Goettman was selected team co-Captain, Most Valuable Player, All-Ohio Athletic Conference and All-Ohio for the 1952 and 1953 basketball seasons. The 1954 graduate set what was then a single-game scoring record of 38 points against Ohio Wesleyan. Goettman was also a star tennis player, but a knee injury kept him from both sports his senior year. Wittenberg has honored Goettman with a Varsity "W" Award, an Alumni Citation for outstanding career achievement, and a class of 1914 Award for contributions to the university. He was a chair of the Tiger Fund during "The Campaign for Wittenberg" that raised over $20 million. Goettman, who was a Danforth Scholar at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, is acting president of Surgical Associates of Springfield. For 12 years, he was Wittenberg's athletic team Physician.
