Tigers Beat OWU To Take Seventh Place In NCAC Tournament
Wittenberg wrapped up the 2012-13 season with a 5-4 victory over Ohio Wesleyan to earn seventh place in the final NCAC standings.
OBERLIN, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers ended the 2012-13 season on a positive note with a 5-4 victory over Ohio Wesleyan on the final day of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament.
The win improved the Tigers to 6-12 on the season and gave Wittenberg seventh place in the final NCAC standings. Ohio Wesleyan, which had lost by a 5-4 score to the Tigers during the regular season, finished with a 3-17 record.
Wittenberg started out with two wins in the three doubles match. Senior Kristin Wright (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and freshman Jaimie Whaley (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) were 8-6 victors at the No. 1 position and the pairing of sophomore Lexi Garza (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) and junior Meghan Depew (Downingtown, Pa./West) added an 8-2 win at No. 3.
In singles, Garza and Depew captured wins at the No. 5 and 6 positions. Freshman Morgan McDermott (Wheeling, W.Va./The Linsley School) clinched the match with a three-set victory at No. 2 singles.
