Michael Cooper joined the Tiger staff as wide receivers coach prior to the 2013 season after a distinguished four-year career on the playing field for Wittenberg from 2008 to 2011. He coached the wide receivers in 2013 and 2014 before moving over to running backs for the 2015 season.
Also a standout on the men's basketball team, Cooper etched his name into the Wittenberg football record book multiple times at wide receiver while earning four letters. His 193 receiving yards against Capital on Sept. 3, 2011, stand as the third-best in program history, and his 13 receiving touchdowns, 1,000 yards and 60 receptions in 2009 all rank in the top four in season records. For his career, Cooper finished with 162 receptions (fourth), 1,740 yards (seventh) and 24 touchdowns (fifth). He was named second team All-NCAC and the Tigers' most improved offensive player in 2009.
Cooper works as a social studies teacher at Springfield High School, where he also coaches junior varsity boys' basketball. He earned his bachelor's degree in history from Wittenberg in 2012, and is a 2008 graduate of South High School in Springfield, Ohio, where he currently resides.
